Diagnostics-IND- Product- AIA-BNP

Description

Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a cardiac hormone consisting of 32 amino acid residues. The structure is similar to another cardiac hormone, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). These peptides are known to have diuretic, natriuretic and vasodilatory effects as well as suppress sympathetic nervous and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone systems.

The release of BNP from the heart is increased in response to mechanic or neurohormonal stimulation of the heart, leading to the raise of the BNP level in blood. It has been reported that measurement of BNP concentration is useful for assessment of the severity of heart failure, monitoring heart failure therapy and predicting long-term prognosis.
