Diagnostics-IND- Product- AIA-Cortisol

Description

Cortisol is one of the most important glucocorticoids produced on the adrenal cortex. Its physiological actions include the regulation of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolisms and has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. The level of cortisol in the blood is regulated by adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which is secreted from the pituitary. This cortisol secretion regulated by ACTH is affected by corticotrophin releasing factor (CRF), which is secreted from the hypothalamus. Cortisol itself also negatively regulates ACTH production. Therefore, in clinical respect, ascertaining the level of cortisol in the blood and its secretion patterns is useful for diagnosing adrenal diseases or evaluating hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal function as well as clinical diagnosis.
