Description
Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) is a steroid hormone chiefly secreted from adrenal cortex. At any age, DHEA-S level in male is higher than that in female. The DHEA-S level is the highest during his/her twenties, thereafter, the DHEA-S level decreases gradually. DHEA-S is used for the index of various disease of the adrenal cortex, and is especially useful for the differential diagnosis of the adrenal lesion of Cushing's syndrome. Moreover, high level DHEA-S is often observed in patients with virilism or polycystic ovary syndrome, etc.
