Diabetes Markers

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action or both. Key biochemical markers help assess pancreatic function, diagnosis and long-term control. Insulin reflects the body’s ability to regulate glucose and helps differentiate between type 1 and type 2 diabetes when interpreted with glucose levels. C-peptide, released in equal amounts with endogenous insulin, is a reliable marker of natural insulin production and is particularly useful for distinguishing endogenous insulin deficiency from exogenous insulin use. HbA1C provides an integrated measure of average blood glucose levels over the past 2–3 months and remains the cornerstone marker for diagnosing diabetes and monitoring long-term glycemic control.
