ILD Marker
Interstitial lung disease (ILD), also called diffused parenchymal diseases, is a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by fibrosis (scarring) of the lungs. Biomarkers have become increasingly important in supporting diagnosis and monitoring of ILD, with Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) being one of the most widely studied. KL-6 is a high-molecular-weight glycoprotein expressed on type II alveolar epithelial cells, and its serum levels rise when these cells are damaged or regenerating. Elevated KL-6 can help differentiate ILD from other pulmonary conditions, assess disease severity and track response to therapy.
